Attracting Chinese tourists to Japan through the cross-border e-commerce mall “Kyoto Superior Border Mall” -Organizing an accompanying tour to visit Okabun Orimono Co.
IntaSect Communications, Inc. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Tan Yufeng, President; hereinafter referred to as “IntaSect”), a provider of overseas promotion, inducement of visitors to Japan, and cross-border EC support, conducted an accompanying tour for Chinese executives involved in textile and apparel-related industries to visit Okabun Textile Co. (Headquarters: Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto-shi, Kyoto; President: Shusuke Okamoto; hereinafter referred to as “Okabun Orimono”), a textile company established over 300 years ago in Kyoto.
This tour was made possible by Kyoto Chuo Shinkin Bank (head office: Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto-shi, Kyoto; President: Makoto Shiranase), which has invested funds in the “Kyoto Yuhin Cross-border Shopping Mall” for China, which will be operated by IntaSect from 2021. This will be the first step to attract group tourists from China through “Kyoto Superior Cross-border Shopping Mall” as inbound tourism, which had been depressed due to the Corona disaster, is rapidly recovering.

Background and History of this Tour
The cross-border e-commerce mall “Kyoto Superior Cross-border Mall” started its operation in 2021 as an initiative of Kyoto Chuo Shinkin Bank’s support program for its business partners to encourage Chinese consumers to purchase products of Kyoto-based companies even though they are unable to visit Japan due to the Corona disaster. The “Kyoto Superior Products Cross-border Market” will not only use influencers to raise awareness and promote sales of the products on display, but will also promote the recovery of tourism demand that has declined in the Corona Disaster and encourage tourists who visit Japan after the disaster to consider Kyoto as a future travel destination. In order to encourage tourists visiting Japan after Corona to consider Kyoto as a future travel destination, we have also been disseminating information on “experiences (koto)” that cannot be experienced unless one actually visits Kyoto. These efforts caught the attention of a Chinese travel agency and led to the planning and holding of an accompanying tour to Okabun Orimono, a textile company with a long history in Kyoto.
About this tour -Inviting customers to visit Japan through a cross-border e-commerce mall for China
About 30 people participated in this tour, mainly executives from textile and apparel-related industries in China. The company we visited, Okabun Orimono, is one of the oldest textile companies in Kyoto, celebrating 333 years in business this year. In light of the fact that QR code payment is the mainstream in China, Okabun Orimono introduced WeChat Pay and Alipay to coincide with this tour. By preparing an environment that allows mobile payment, it will be easier for attendees to purchase products they like on the spot.
On the day of the tour, participants were invited to shop on the spot, leading to sales of high-priced products costing several hundred thousand yen. In addition, since the tour was attended by executives from the textile and apparel industry, many participants asked questions from a manager’s perspective about the fact that Okabun Orimono has existed for over 300 years as one of the leading textile companies in Kyoto. Many participants were interested in the fact that Okabun Textile has been one of the leading textile companies in Kyoto for more than 300 years, and also in the fact that the company has adopted modern technology in its production while continuing to carry on the tradition. Many participants were interested and concerned about the company’s production, which incorporates modern technology while continuing the traditions.
