IntaSect digitizes Kyoto’s Gion Festival! Providing inbound support for multilingual displays with a single QR code – Significant increase in the amount of money spent on QR code payments, 2.5 times that of last year~.

IntaSect Communications, Inc. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Tan Yuho, President; hereinafter referred to as “IntaSect”), which provides support for overseas promotions, inbound visitors to Japan, and cross-border e-commerce, was commissioned by the Hakodani Hoko Preservation Foundation (hereinafter referred to as “Hakodani Hoko”) to provide a QR code payment service at the Gion Festival held in Kyoto in July this year. In addition to the introduction of QR code payment systems for the purpose of cashless transactions at home and abroad, we also produced QR code-based explanatory displays in multiple languages for exhibits and posters and pamphlets for foreign visitors to Japan in order to accommodate the increasing number of foreign visitors to Japan. ■ Significant growth in the use of QR code payment at the Gion Festival
The Gion Festival in Kyoto, one of the three major festivals in Japan since the Heian period (794-1192), was visited by a large number of people, including tourists from overseas, as in the previous year. Multilingual Support Using QR Codes
At the request of the Hakodani Hoko Preservation Society, we have made our QR code explanations available in multiple languages in order to provide foreign visitors to Japan with a deeper understanding of the history, culture, and background of this event, as well as to make it more meaningful and enjoyable for them. Based on the language information set on the user’s smartphone, a single QR code can be displayed in a single language. The QR code can switch between different languages based on the language information set on the user’s smartphone. Especially, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean, which are popular among inbound visitors, are supported.

The QR codes were used to explain the many suspended objects, including historic cultural properties, and thus helped foreign tourists learn about Japanese history. Design and production of posters and pamphlets for overseas inbound visitors

Gion Matsuri About the Hoko
The Hoko is named after the legend that Men-naekun of the Qi Dynasty in China’s Warring States Period (403-221 BC) was able to escape from the Hakodani Pass by the sound of a chicken’s voice. The moon and the mountain shape on the head of the spear represent the darkness of the mountain, and the “heavenly king’s throne” in the middle of the maki is represented by Mentei-kun, with a male and female chicken below him. The gold-ground paintings of chickens and crows on the attic were painted by Imao Keinen (1845-1924), and the front hanging scroll is an important cultural property restored and renewed in 2006, depicting scenes from the first century of the Old Testament. The mizuhiki is a hand-woven flocking chickens by Yamaga Seika, and the body is made of three carpets: a 17th century Korean carpet with a tiger on a plum tree, an Indian carpet with a floral design, and a Chinese carpet with a lion design on a ball and tassel. The miho is a fine copy of an ancient gold on navy blue ground “Kongokai Rikenmon” by Kobo Daishi and a copy of a similar work from the Tempo period (1830-43), but a new version, “Egyptian Sky” by Minagawa Taizo, has recently been added. The float was destroyed by fire in 1788, but was rebuilt 50 years later in 1839, and since then, it has used a child doll called “Katamaru.
