What is “PayPay”?
PayPay is a smartphone payment service provided by PayPay Corporation, a joint venture between SoftBank Corp. and Yahoo Japan Corporation. PayPay offers two types of payment methods: “user scan (scan payment),” in which users scan QR codes provided by merchants using an app, and “store scan (code payment),” in which merchants scan barcodes or QR codes displayed by users on an app at a cash register or other location. The merchant can choose either method. Another feature is that users can choose between two payment methods: electronic money (“PayPay Balance” or “Yahoo! Money”) and credit cards.
■What is “Rakuten Pay (app payment)”?
“Rakuten Pay (app payment)” is a service that allows users to register their credit card and make payments easily with a smartphone app. When shopping at a participating store, users can make payment by reading the QR code displayed on the store’s tablet terminal or printed QR code with the smartphone application, or by displaying the QR code or barcode on the smartphone application and having the store read it. By using this service, you can also earn “Rakuten Super Points” and use them for payment. Rakuten Pay (app payment)” is the No. 1 QR Code payment service among all QR Code payment services in Japan (see note).
