He will speak on the theme of “Labor-saving measures for cross-border data transfers by using CBPR certification and cloud computing.

In recent years, many companies have expanded their use of cloud services in response to the Corona disaster. However, in some of these cases, we have seen a coping strategy implemented, and in particular, confusion has arisen regarding the concept of data cross-border transfers in the revision of the Personal Information Protection Law. In addition, incidents of personal information leaks due to incorrect settings have been on the rise.

This seminar explains the points that need to be sorted out from both legal and practical perspectives for the future expansion of cloud use. Advice is given from both legal and practical perspectives to support appropriate cloud use by companies.

We hope that all interested parties will attend this seminar and obtain the correct information and knowledge.

It is not easy to think that “since only the company can access the data in the cloud, no special measures are required under the Personal Information Protection Law. This section focuses on the rules of the Personal Information Protection Law that must be observed when using or storing personal information in the cloud of a foreign entity, or when the server is located in a foreign country even if it is in the cloud of a domestic entity.

Cloud services are already being adopted by public and private sector organizations. The benefits of cloud adoption are not only cost optimization, but also the advancement of organizational DX and a high level of security. The issues surrounding the protection of personal information in the cloud are becoming more diverse as the latest technologies, such as data analysis services and generative AI, are being introduced. Chief Privacy Officer, Privacy Legal, Salesforce Japan, Inc.

The revised Privacy Act, which went into effect in April 2022, has complicated the rules regulations governing the cross-border transfer of data. These rules reflect the “trust but verify” privacy trend. In this presentation, we, as experienced users and providers of cloud services, will describe how our experience has impacted our approach to compliance, both internally and with our customers. Specifically, we will discuss our ongoing implementation systems or certified frameworks, as well as the steps companies can take to ensure they have the solutions they need to meet their disclosure requirements.

The presentation will cover the issues of personal information storage in cloud computing, including what cloud computing companies are struggling to deal with, and how to deal with them, from the standpoints of regulation and service provision/usage.
